Alyx’s ghost sister Katrina doesn’t approve of her new status, especially since it endangers every aspect of her life, including her new and old friends at the academy. Working against her sister’s wishes, Alyx becomes close to her spirit guide who hides under a disguise, until it slowly reveals its true being. Alyx starts to understand Katrina’s worry, but is it too late? Her guide’s true identity will not only comprise Alyx’s new life, but her entire universe.
Stripped of her ghost sight gift, Alyx can keep up the pretense for only so long. She wants her gift back, and she’ll do anything to get it.

Communicating with restless spirits through paranormal investigating devices is her boss’s idea, turning Alyx into little more than a con artist doing séances all over town. This she can deal with, but losing the link to her sister pushes her to the only option: going back where her ghost sight began. If they can help her recover her memories, then maybe Alyx will not only learn what happened in the house where her family died, but also who the real enemy is – someone a little too close for her comfort.
With broken bones and shattered hopes, Alyx escapes to her uncle’s sanctuary, sadly the resident ghost doesn’t care if she recovers or not.
Soon she learns why her link to Transcend is so strong.
The last person Alyx wants to see is her uncle and the last place she wants to be is at his island cabin… exactly where she ends up. But wounds need time to heal and at least there she is safe from her boss – for now. Soon she meets the resident ghost and it isn’t long before he reveals information about her family and her link to her employer. Armed with new information, Alyx realizes that she must help this spirit come to terms with his death; even if the revelations link him to her family’s murder, and her own future.
With her sister and spirit guide by her side, Alyx believes nothing can harm her, but her track record alone should have taught her to double check her facts. Turns out the identity of this ghost did a lot of harm indeed…
In the final battle against her enemy, Alyx teams up with lost souls to avenge her family’s death.
But she should know by now not every ghost is to be trusted.
Alyx thinks she has a plan, but her enemy’s is better. Trying to find her missing boss, she becomes bait to lure him out so she can give him a piece of her mind—and her fist. Instead, he toys with her; sending her clues of where he’s been and what he’s done with no clear indication of his location. Something her ghostly sister could easily do, if only she showed up to help her out.
When the man who destroyed Alyx’s life plays one last trick on her, she must find a way to end him in one last confrontation before more blood is shed. Armed with friends, paranormal investigators and former recruits, no one can predict if Alyx or her boss will be the last one standing on this side of the afterlife once everything is over.
